The NASA X-34 Dryden Orbital scale model is made from the highest quality of mahogany. Each part is painstakingly hand-carved by master craftsmen and undergoes priming and sanding several times until it is perfect. Talented artists meticulously paint each and every detail, no matter how big or small. The result is a replica that is a faithful reproduction of the original aircraft.
History:
The Orbital Sciences X-34 was intended to be an autonomous pilot-less craft powered by a Fastrac rocket engine capable of reaching Mach 8. It is capable of flying up to eight times the speed of sound and reaching altitudes of approximately 50 miles. It will be a workhorse for testing high reliability, low-cost technologies and operations needed to develop and operate the next generation of space vehicles.
NASA’s X-34 technology demonstrator is a flying laboratory for technologies and operations applicable to future low-cost, reusable launch vehicles. The goal of the X-34 and NASA’s other advanced technology demonstrators is to dramatically increase reliability and lower the cost of putting payloads into space.
