History:
The Space Shuttle Discovery or NASA Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-103 is one of the three spacecrafts in the Space Shuttle fleet that belongs to NASA. Its maiden flight was on the 30th of August 1984 and was the third operational Space Shuttle and the oldest shuttle in the service. It was named after the RRS Discovery, the last wooden three-masted ship to be built in the British Isles.
The Space Shuttle Discovery has performed both research and International Space Station assembly missions. It was designed to transport people and cargo to and from orbit around Earth. And it was developed to serve as a reusable rocket and spacecraft. It has flown 33 flights; had spent 241.95 days in space; and it has completed 3,808 orbits.
It had flown most flights compared to other Space Shuttles. It has a designed lifespan of more than 10 flights. The Discovery’s notable missions are its first flight STS-41-D; the STS-51-D which carried first sitting U.S. Member of Congress into space; and many others. Its last flight was on the 9th of December 2006 to 22nd of December 2006 and it is still operational.
