Our wooden scale model of the C-5 Galaxy is made from high quality mahogany. Skilled craftsmen spend several hours hand-carving every part of the plane before the parts are primed and sanded. Details such as insignias, squadron badges, nose art, emblems and serial numbers are painted on with extraordinary accuracy by artists. Coats of clear lacquer provide a glossy finish and protection. Each model comes with a mahogany-based chrome stand and undergoes many stages of quality control before being put into its box. The Galaxy is a work of art that is perfect for collections, art galleries and giveaways.

History:

In 1998, the C-5's avionics began to be upgraded under the Avionics Modernization Program. Beginning May 2008, three C-5s are set to receive new engines under the Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program. As of 2005, fourteen C-5As have been retired. Data from inspection will be used to evaluate structural integrity and estimate remaining fleet lifespan.

The C-5B variant incorporated significant improvements. More than a hundred additional system modifications were added to improve reliability and maintainability, including upgraded turbofan engines and updated avionics. Fifty aircraft were delivered to the USAF from 1986 to 1989.

The largest aircraft to ever operate in Antarctica, the first C-5 landed on the continent in 1989. The C-5 Galaxy has also been involved in some accidents, the most well-known of which occurred on April 4, 1975, during Operation Baby Lift. A C-5A plane crashed while carrying orphans from Vietnam. Out of the 305 on board, 144 adults and children were killed.
