History:
The Northrop F-18 Hornet, a multi role fighter which also performs the attack function, is being used by United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, Royal Australian Air Force, and Spanish Air Force. The F18 Hornet makes its maiden flight on November 18, 1978, taking off from Lambert International Airport with McDonnell Aircraft chief test pilot Jack Krings at the controls.
During Operation Desert Storm, the F 18 Super Hornet demonstrated its capabilities and versatility, shooting down enemy fighters and subsequently bombing enemy targets with the same aircraft on the same mission, and breaking all records for tactical aircraft in availability, reliability, and maintainability.
Since 1986, the Blue Angels have been using Boeing F/A-18 Hornets for aerial demonstration. The F-18 is known for its blue and gold paint scheme.
