This B-17G Flying Fortress "Sentimental Journey" model airplane is an authentic replica made from the finest grade of select kiln dried mahogany wood. The model is hand-carved; from the aircraft fuselage, to the sanding of the airplane’s contours. Every part is assembled precisely into place. History:
Boeing B-17G Flying Fortresses, B-17 variant were used to fight fires until the 1980s. Subsequently, the tankers were restored to stock configuration. The restored Flying Fortresses tour the country, taking aviation enthusiasts aloft on nostalgia flights.
In all, 12,731 B-17s of all models were produced during the period 1935 thru 1945. The "G" model was the most produced model (8,680), and although basically the same as the earlier "F" model, it had a chin turret with two fifty caliber Machine guns and two cheek gun positions each mounting single fifty caliber Machine guns. In all there were 13 fifty caliber Machine guns mounted in the "G" model B-17.
“Sentimental Journey” (44-83514) is the nickname of a B-17G Flying Fortress bomber. Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress “Sentimental Journey” was built in 1944 for use in the Pacific Theater, and donated to the Arizona CAF in 1978. It is housed at the museum at Falcon Field, Arizona by the Commemorative Air Force.
