Our Horsa Glider model airplane is ideally suited for collectibles, executive gifts, premium and promotional incentives, art gallery "sculptures", and many other purposes. Working from exact blueprints, our Horsa Glider model aircraft is sculptured by our master craftsmen from specially treated mahogany wood. The Horsa Glider wood model is made to recognized collector scales for enhanced value. Every part of the wooden aircraft is assembled precisely into place using the highest quality adhesive available. After shaping and sanding, the Horsa Glider wooden airplane model passes through several stages of priming and sanding before it is hand-painted to duplicate the actual colors of the historical aircraft. Our artisans detail from researched reference materials, including all the insignias, squadron badges, nose-art, emblems and serial numbers, to replicate the original aircraft to scale.
Finally, the Horsa Glider model airplane is provided with a natural stained mahogany stand. We believe our Horse Glider wood model aircraft represents the highest valued collectible in its price range.
History:
The Horsa Glider is larger than the American Waco CG-4A. The Horsa Glider aircraft can carry as many as 30 troops and was constructed almost entirely by wood. Many American and British pilots used the Horsa Glider into their Normandy mission. The Horsa was first used in November 1942 but became unsuccessful on its attack on the German Heavy Water Plant at Rjukan Norway. Due to bad weather, two Horsa Gliders and one Halifax tug aircraft crashed in Norway. The survivors of the plane crashed were executed as Hitler ordered.
On July 10, 1943 27 Horsa Gliders were used in the invasion of Sicily. Large numbers of Horsa were used in the Operation Tonga, American airborne landings in Normandy, Operation Dragoon, Operation Market garden and Operation Varsity. The pilots for Horsa Gliders were usually from the Glider Pilot Regiment, part of the Army Corps. The Horsa was also used by the USAAF for their missions.
