Our scale model of the Vought F7U Cutlass may not be the actual aircraft, but it certainly comes close and is fit to be displayed in a museum. Made from the highest quality of mahogany, it is hand-carved with great care. Each part undergoes priming and sanding several times before being hand-painted by gifted artists. Every detail, no matter how big or small, is duplicated with great accuracy and protected by a final coat of clear lacquer.
History:
One of the many jet fighter and fighter bomber during the Cold War was the F7U Cutlass under the United States Navy. Chance Vought introduced the F7U to the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps in 1954.
The Vought F7U Cutlass first flew in August 1948. The Cutlass was reported in squadron less than four years later on November 30, 1957. A total of 305 F7Us were delivered to the Navy. The name Cutlass was nicked from “gutless” due to its carrier handling.
The Cutlass was popular to those who flew it. It was comfortable to fly, capable of high-g, aerobatic maneuvers and offered good pilot visibility.
