History:
The Messerschmitt Me 262 contribution to the German war came far less and late than it could due to big delays caused initially by Hitler's overconfidence in a fast triumph, and subsequently by his obsession with bombers and rivalries in the German Air Force and military industry. Allied bombardments of the Messerschmitt factories and of the German fuel industry, and later of Me-262 air bases, also greatly contributed to slow down and minimize its operational activity.
Four days in March of 1945 signified the altitude of the Me 262 plans, where up to forty sorties a day against Allied bombers was reached. Beyond that, the Messerschmitt Me 262 never looked away from its British competitor, the Gloster Meteor.
By the end of war, the investigation garnered from the Messerschmitt Me 262 survey became crucial in establishing the new generation of jet-powered design. The Me 262, in any kind, remains one of the powerful aircraft designs in the story of aviation and will always be tied to the "what-if" scenarios that rotate around discussions covering the conclusion of World War II.
